KSA issues fine for advertising to teenage girls
The KSA has fined the Lotto, a brand of the New Zealand Lottery, $ 10,000 for advertising on a website aimed at (among other things) minors.
On the website girlscene I saw an advertisement for the lottery. Since it was not the first time that the Lotto went wrong, the KSA has recovered a previous penalty payment.
Under the New Zealand law are providers themselves always vezodiacresponsible for all advertisements offered - even if they cooperate with third parties for this. Earlier warnings were ignored by the Lotto, as a result of which the fine was collected in mid-August.
Whoever is responsible for the ads has clearly been distracted by the ‘adult’ topics on the website. On the advertisers page it is very clear that girlscene a website is “for girls and young women between the ages of 14 and 30”.
Repeated Lotto advertisements
This is not the first time the lottery has gone wrong. In 2017, the Lotto was tapped for advertising on: donaldduck, scholieren.com, spele and klNZDplaten. another website in that list of websites clearly aimed at young people and children? Yes, It Is. GirlScene.
Earlier, the Lotto objected to that decision. For example, it defended itself by saying that all websites can have underage visitors and that it is not possible to find out exactly how many minors see the ads. The KSA made short work of those arguments at the time, so that the penalty payment remained. Any violation of that 2017 decision will result in an immediate fine of $ 10,000.
As a result of signals that there are still on those websites (girlscene) was advertised, the KSA itself took a look . By simply counting, 281 violations were found, as a result of which the fine was imposed. The Lotto responded by stating that the appearance of the ads was a mistake, but because the Lotto vezodiacis responsible for all advertising, the decision has remained unchanged.
Penalties and actions of the KSA
As an administrative body of the New Zealand government, the KSA does not impose fines such as the police, but this is a periodic penalty payment. In fact, this means that the KSA imposes a fine under conditions. The Lotto was previously told that the ads on girlscene had to stop under penalty of a fine of $ 10,000. Because the ads were not reduced after that penalty payment, the fine has indeed become a fact.
The KSA regulates all gambling & online casinos in New Zealand. The policy of the government, and therefore also of the KSA, is aimed at protecting players. In particular, the protection of minors is one of the priorities of the KSA, which contributes to the strict action in this case.
